We build Surf Skull to protect your head, but we also believe in total transparency. Here is where our current testing stands:
Surf Skull V2 The V2 (Size Large) has officially passed independent third-party testing as a certified Water Helmet (EN 1385). We are actively certifying the remaining sizes, which feature the identical construction, tech, and materials as the Large. Note: Surf Skull is not rated for, and should not be used in, Class 4 or 5 rapids.
Surf Skull V1 Engineered for heavy impacts, the V1 includes a protective bump cap portion that meets EN 812:2012 standards. In the lab, it withstood up to 15kN of force. However, Mother Nature doesn't operate in a controlled lab—real-world conditions are unpredictable, so always use caution out there.
Unlike industrial helmets, bump caps are specifically intended to protect the wearer from static objects such as walking into low ceilings or encountering hanging obstructions. Impact tests have been conducted using a 5kg flat striker dropped from a height of 250mm, with a maximum allowable transmitted force of 15kN. These tests simulate scenarios akin to industrial helmet requirements but at a lower energy level. The impacts are carried out on the front and rear of the helmet, with the headform tilted at 30° and 60° to reflect potential real-world impacts.
Users are strongly advised to exercise judgment and discretion while using this surf helmet. While it is crafted with safety standards in mind, no helmet can guarantee the prevention of all concussions or injuries in every conceivable scenario. Real-world conditions may vary, and impacts can differ significantly from controlled laboratory tests.
